FIRST EVER Miss Piggy Interview

WOMEN'S WEEKLY, February 21, 1979

This magazine claims to have published the first authentic Miss Piggy interview. Between scenes while filming the “The Muppet Movie” and after answering her daily fan mail, she spoke with interviewer Jenny Craven. It begins like this:

FIRST EVER Miss Piggy Interview <font color=WOMEN'S WEEKLY, February 21, 1979">

Jenny:  Miss Piggy, can we go back to the beginning?

Miss Piggy:  Absolutely not.

Jenny: Where were you born?

Miss Piggy:  (With a far away and steely glint in her blue eyes) New England, someplace.

Why she would say that, we don't know, because, of course, she was born in Hog Springs, Iowa.

Preferring, rather, to talk about the movie, the interview continues.

Miss Piggy:  Naturally, I am the star of this movie. I play moiself. The story? It's a love story about moi and my True Love, Kermit. It's the story of how we first met. This movie (she said, as she tossed back her long, blond hair) is exceedingly romantic.

The script of the movie and fellow stars, Kermit and Fozzie Bear tell a different story. According to them, it is the story of Kermit's arduous progress from a Georgian swamp to fame and fortune in Hollywood.

Miss Piggy:  Oh, yeah. They're referring to an earlier draft. There have been re-writes.

She swiftly changed the subject.

Miss Piggy:  Filming is terribly exhausting. I have to be on the set every day by 6:30 a.m. And naturally being the star, I never get a day off. However (she quickly added to explain the absence of cameras), there are some scenes which I have refused to take part in. I told the director whom I know personally (James Frawley), that I could absolutely not spend long hours out in the desert sun. He didn't like it, but I have to think of my complexion.

She was referring to the scene where the bad guys surround Kermit and try to get him to advertise their chain of frog-leg restaurants.

When asked about the rumors around the set that she had a stunt double, she was shocked.

Miss Piggy:  All my scenes are my own. A double? Impossible! I am unique.

When asked about the other pig seen around the set, she said:

Miss Piggy:  I don't know who she is, but she'll so anything for a buck.

When Jenny asked about marrying a frog, isn't it rather strange:

Miss Piggy:  So what? (She instantly replied.)

Miss Piggy claims that it was “love at first sight.”

Since moving to Hollywood, although she fits right in to the lifestyle, she has been swamped (so to speak) by people trying to “make cheap publicity.”

Miss Piggy: Can you imagine the cheek? I've been forced to travel incognito.

Although she has been “swamped” (so to speak, again) “by movie offers,” she has refused them all because her current schedule has kept her so busy.

Miss Piggy:  All scripts are being sent to my agent. As soon as I finish this movie, I fly directly to London for ‘The Muppet Show.' In any case, I don't think much of any of the scripts. I am waiting for the right role. An artiste of my caliber cannot afford to be seen in anything cheap, you understand.

When asked what kind of role would appeal to her, she replied:

Miss Piggy:  I am waiting for a really strong and meaningful female pig role.

Just then, the interview was interrupted by a knock on the door. Miss Piggy was being called into makeup preparation for the next scene.

Miss Piggy:  Moi? (She sounded surprised.) Do I get no peace?, Oh well (she sighed), life is tough at the top.
